Sun Tzu‘s Principles of Warfare.

  1. No Empire, Nation, Kingdom, State, City-State, or Tribe has ever benefited by prolonged war!
  2. All Warfare is deception!
  3. It is essential for victory that generals are unconstrained by their leaders!
  4. Make your enemy prepare on his left and he will be weak on his right!
  5. The winning army realizes the conditions for victory first, then fights!
  6. The losing army fights first then seeks victory!
  7. Those skilled in war bring their enemy to the field of battle. They are not brought by him!
  8. Move only when you see an advantage and there is something to gain!
  9. Only fight if a position or objective is critical!
  10. When the enemy occupies the high ground, do not confront him!
  11. If the enemy attacks from the high ground downhill do not oppose him!
  12. There are some armies that should not be fought.
  13. Some ground should not be contested if it has no tactical or strategic advantage!
  14. When troops flee, are insubordinate, collapse or are routed in battle, it is the fault of the generals!
  15. War is a matter of vital importance to the state – It is a matter of life and death, survival, or ruin!
